Please follow these guidelines when editing the Story of Arceus Wiki.

Conduct

  • Be nice — do not attack your fellow editor.
  • Be bold — you can usually skip the talk page and go straight to making your edit.
  • Avoid reverting others' edits multiple times — it's at this point you should take it to the talk page.

Style

This is not a comprehensive manual of style. Unless they are contradicted by the rules below, please defer to Wikipedia's Manual of Style for general encyclopedic writing, and Bulbapedia's manual of style for Pokémon-specific conventions.

Titles

  • Titles should be a recognizeable and concise description for the topic.
  • Write titles in sentence case by default (Illaminian language, not Illaminian Language).
  • For italicized titles, add {{DISPLAYTITLE|''{{PAGENAME}}''}} to the top of the page.
  • Character pages: Only use the character's first name (Adelaide, not Adelaide Imperador de Milan; Olistia, not Conduit Olistia).

Punctuation and grammar

  • For periods and commas around quotation marks, use logical quotation — i.e., place the period or comma inside if and only if it is part of the quotation.
    • Incorrect: Years are written "6th Turn, 62," or abbreviated, "6T62."
    • Correct: Years are written "6th Turn, 62", or abbreviated, "6T62".
    • Incorrect: He said, "Sit down".
    • Correct: He said, "Sit down."
  • Use 's for possessives of all singular nouns, including common and proper nouns ending in s (Argus's wife, not Argus' wife).
    • Use ' without s for all plural nouns that end in a pronounced s (his sons' wishes).
  • Avoid first- and second-person pronouns and constructions. (Especially for in-universe articles, because neither the author nor the reader actually lives in Story of Arceus!)
  • For the most part, write verbs in the present tense. Past tense should be used for events from before the work, or subjects that are dead before the relevant work takes place.

Citations

If reference footnotes are used, include a "References" level 2 header at the bottom of the page.

Citations are not required for summaries and descriptions of the work itself. References to specific quotations or factoids should be cited by chapter number, with the word Chapter capitalized. Use in-text attribution if it flows naturally; otherwise, use a reference footnote. Do not use a hyperlink. Include the name of the work only if it is not obvious from context. Use the chapter numbers from the text of the work, not the chapter numbers generated by the host site ("Fission" is Chapter 35, not Chapter 64 as AO3 orders it).

Facts from outside of the work, such as author comments, should be cited using reference footnotes. Footnotes should always be placed after punctuation. A URL with no further markup is acceptable for the citation text in most cases. The exception is for anything on Shanna's personal website, where the link text should be the title of the page. For AO3 comments, always link to the topmost comment of the associated thread.
